Affirmations

Affirmations are statements you make about yourself to cement positive ideas into your mind. They can be read silently or aloud, and for maximum impact, speak them forcefully while walking or otherwise moving briskly. Repetition is key to implementing them in your life, so refer back to them throughout each day to really implant new ideas into your thinking. It doesn't matter if the statement is not yet true about you—say it as if it already is, and before long your belief in your ability to make it true will kick in.

Substitute any words that don't feel right for you with your own. As you say these words, feel these declarations go out into the world and come fully alive. If you create some for yourself, be sure to avoid wishy-washy language like "trying" or "I'd like to" or "someday." The whole point is to affirm your vision for your life as you want it to be right now—not in a month or two. The recipe is simple: conceive of what you want, believe it's already real, and be open to receive it when it shows up.

"Thank you Barbara for being the messenger who gave me the push I needed to institute substantial, meaningful change in my life. One change that's made a big difference in my daily life with money is writing down everything I spend. I've done this in the past, with the same result, but I'd forgotten how powerful it is to track every penny. I've become a very conscious and conscientious spender! I find it's much easier to turn away from spending if I know I have to write it down and total it up at the end of the month. I ask myself, 'Can I manage without it?' and 'Do I really love it?' If I can't answer yes to either of those questions, the wallet stays in my purse." ~Pat H.
