Barbara Stanny

Barbara Stanny Is On A Mission:

To revolutionize women’s relationship to money.

I grew up relying on my father (the “R” of H&R Block), then my husband, to manage my money. But a devastating financial crisis became a personal wake-up call.

I share my journey to financial independence in hopes of inspiring, and even better, motivating YOU to become smart (or smarter) with money.

My life took a miraculous turn when I began, as a former journalist,  interviewing financially savvy women. I discovered a surprising series of insights that all these women shared – insights that enabled them (and eventually, me) to get ‘smart’ about money. Those insights became the core of my first book, Prince Charming Isn’t Coming: How Women Get Smart About Money (Penguin).

Suddenly, I was a financial expert, with a whole new career…traveling the country educating women about money. But I couldn’t make money, at least not very much, no matter how hard I worked. That’s when my mentor, Karen McCall (www.financialrecovery.com ), told me I was an  underearner.

“I am not!” I protested. “I’m a writer.  Everyone knows writers don’t make money!!!”

I truly believed that….until I decided to focus my research on women’s earnings. Rather than concentrate on the wage gap and gender barriers, I turned my attention to the women who were breaking those barriers.

I interviewed over 150 women who made $100,000 or more. My goal: to find out how they did it, if I could too, and how to avoid the pitfalls along the way. From this new research came my next book, Secrets of Six Figure Women: Surprising Strategies to Up Your Earnings and Change Your Life (HarperCollins).

I not only uncovered the secrets that enabled these women to become financially successful, but for the first time in my life, I became a six-figure woman…before I even finished writing the book.

At the same time, I began giving Overcoming Underearning® seminars to teach others what I was learning. A few years ago, I went back and interviewed hundreds of women who had attended my seminars. The result—my latest book, Overcoming Underearning®: A Five Step Plan to a Richer Life.

I still offer OU seminars, but I am no longer teaching them, passing the baton to a remarkable teacher I personally trained.  I’ve shifted my focus to what I call Sacred Success® The content is brand new, based on my eye-opening interviews with women who make millions. Believe me, the map for achieving affluence is very different from the secrets to overcoming underearning!

Sacred Success® is about pursuing your soul’s purpose, for your own bliss and the benefit of others, while being richly rewarded. To learn more, I invite you to read my blogs about Sacred Success® (beginning with Sweet (?) Surrender) and attend my Sacred Success® Retreats.

My background in business, my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, my extensive research and my poignant experience with money has given me a unique perspective on women’s financial issues.

Carrie Birgbauer

Carrie Birgbauer, M.A. is a certified money coach and a former kindergarten teacher, chief of staff and yoga instructor. Carrie is an authority on multiple intelligences, personality types and is a nationally competitive tennis player. At age 30, Carrie realized she had never balanced a checkbook, been able to stick to a budget or sustain savings. So began her quest for a financial education.  She read books, tried Quicken, Mint, traditional financial therapy and even designed her own financial tracking software to no avail.  At a friend’s suggestion, Carrie hired a money coach and, finally, found what she had been looking for.  For the first time in her life, Carrie had access to essential financial tools, distinctions and awareness as well as an accountability partner to help her look at the emotional side and psychology of money.  The effects were so profound and inspiring that Carrie completed the intensive financial counseling training program at the Financial Recovery Institute led by Karen McCall, Barbara Stanny’s mentor. Carrie doubled her income during her first year as a money coach.  She now lives a life of financial integrity, empowerment and most importantly, peace of mind about money.
